sudo dscl . delete /users/privoxy sudo dscl . delete /groups/privoxy
... does the trick!

Well, building privoxy 3.0.16 (latest stable) on OSX 10.5.8 PPC still fails with the same error message related to either "group" or "user" privoxy. Running dscl showed that neither a user or a group named "privoxy" are present. Manually adding them with dscl before retrying to build privoxy still didn't fix the issue. Rather disappointing, given the age of the ticket. Are the
--with-user=privoxy --with-group=privoxy
configure arguments really necessary?
