clamd --version ERROR: Please edit the example config file /opt/local/etc/clamd.conf ERROR: Can't open/parse the config file /opt/local/etc/clamd.conf
the file is there, UID/GID: root:wheel.

Please update to the latest clamav port (0.96.1) and attach the full failing build log if you still experience a problem with the new version.
My guess would be that you haven't edited the clamd.conf file and so the 'Example' line isn't commented out and clamd is just quitting after reading that.
