Description

I am upgrading my ports installation and expat is one of many dependencies that need to be installed. However it does not seem to be available at its expected download locations

Using the same link in a browser also, not surprisingly, fails, that is, it loads for a while and then nothing. It is not something temporary, I have tried for 12 hours now.

Another related problem: port's error message is

DEBUG: Fetching failed:: couldn't connect to host

when in fact it seems like the host is responding but with an empty response. Maybe it should be changed to something more user friendly, I started to look into my firewall etc to rule out network problems.

There is something wrong with your network; the file should exist on most of those servers.

The "couldn't connect to host" message isn't being produced by MacPorts itself; that comes from the curl library MacPorts uses to fetch files.

This was really weird. I got a kernel panic an hour after I wrote this report and after a restart expat was downloaded fine BUT during that hour I used all other network using applications as usual. Maybe the -d flag to port should trigger --verbose or similar flag for the helper applications?

Resolution:	→ invalid
Status:	new → closed

There is no helper application as we are using libcurl. And as curl had the same problem, I doubt it was anything specific to the way we use libcurl, but was a general problem.
