Esxcuse me, I did not look into the history of the port, but couldn't you just fetch the GeoLiteCity*.dat.gz from maxmind instead of recreating a tarball for it?

Also, we usually do not attach binary files this large to tickets. Anyway, I guess you can now use this from here:

master_sites-append https://trac.macports.org/raw-attachment/ticket/37027/

At least this would do for the initial mirroring and then it will be on distfiles.macports.org anyway.

Maxmind hosts a single unversioned file that changes every month.

Should this port be replaced_by libgeoip and instructions add to libgeoip for fetching and installing the db files?

I think this port should be deprecated and replace by tool like ​https://github.com/maxmind/geoipupdate or basic shell script to download db (would prefer former)
