I'd like to request a standalone application for the Filezilla package. Currently you can only launch it through a terminal command.

If you install FileZilla based on Cocoa (or Carbon), it builds the app automatically.

If you want to use the app for the wxGTK-based FileZilla, the easiest way would be to fix the build system. An alternative would be to create it with the Portfile. (And you need to be aware that there are some minor issues with GTK-based apps. A tiny buglet somewhere in wxGTK, I'm just not sure what exactly and it's on nobody's priority list to finish it. But it works in principle.)

I haven't seen the maintainer of FileZilla port respond to any ticket or request for a very long time already, I'm not sure if he's still interested in maintaining the port.

Summary: FileZilla application requestFileZilla: application request

I committed r121090 and r121091, but that's probably not the final answer yet as it doesn't create an app when using (the fallback) wxGTK-3.0, it doesn't work properly yet with the Cocoa interface and in the cocoa interface users might start asking for the command-line commands to open the app.

Looking at this old ticket ...

FileZilla is now compatible with wxWidgets 3.0 and there is no need to fall back to wxGTK any longer. Personally I no longer see the need to invest effort into trying to make FileZilla.app when compiled against wxGTK since wxGTK fallback will probably be removed anyway.

But users now get FileZilla.app by default.

I will close this ticket as "fixed" or "wontfix", depending on how one sees the situation.
