#47573 closed update (fixed)

macports-notifier: Update to most recent source

Reported by: sierkb@… Owned by: macports-tickets@…
Priority: Normal Milestone:
Component: ports Version:
Keywords: Cc: ryandesign (Ryan Carsten Schmidt), kurthindenburg (Kurt Hindenburg)
Port: macports-notifier

Description

Please update macports-notifier Portfile to most recent trunk source code (last change May 20 2009 instead of MacPorts' version whose code is of August 13 2007), also as recommendend on http://portsnotifier.sourceforge.net/developers.html, to really match most recent upstream version (trunk) and benefit from bug fixes and new features.

svn checkout http://portsnotifier.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/ portsnotifier-read-only

Benefits of updating to trunk source and change Portfile accordingly to checkout from trunk instead download outdated tarball:

  • Portfile's existing patch file for case sensitive FS would be obsolete, because bug is fixed in trunk since Nov 5, 2007 (r29).
  • New feature: Preferences Window (r30).
  • Version number in Portsfile then matches with that in Info.plist (r27).

I would really prefer it if the developer would release a new version, if they believe the code is in a stable state to be used by users. However, since the last change was in 2009, perhaps the project is abandoned. Have you already tried to contact the developer about this, and about moving the project away from Google Code, since that hosting service is being discontinued?

Mee too, but we currently have no other code than that.

+1

I have a version that I think works using https://github.com/sierkb/portsnotifier and one patch. However, it uses /opt/local/bin/port and on my system I need to use sudo. I'm not sure how other people use sync w/o sudo.

I assume it does so via its launchd plist which it wants to start as root.

In 75d48de51d565117a1d9c1a8456332f8a21b3f34/macports-ports:

macports-notifier: update to more recent version

Change to use github repo instead of googlecode.

I can not really test all the functions on my system due to my setup.

FYI:

In the port file, the line

patchfiles patch-general.png.diff

no longer is required, since the little patch for the PortsNotifier.xcodeproj/project.pbxproj file has been committed upstream a few minutes ago. Please change the port file accordingly.
